1. What are the costs?

For a schedule of room rates, visit our room price list page. Every bedroom at The Swag is a distinctive creation, unique in size and decor. Our nightly room rates range from $495 - $800 (based on double occupancy) and include all meals. In larger rooms with sufficient space for more than two guests, each additional person is $150 — with the exception of the Two Story, which is $200 per. In the event of single person room occupancy, $50 is subtracted from the room's normal rate. There is a 15% service charge, 7% North Carolina sales tax, and 4% local occupancy tax on all room rates. A two night minimum stay is required, three nights on holiday weekends.

2. What's your reservations policy?

Reservations may be made up to one year in advance. At checkout, it is commonplace for guests to request "same time next year" reservations. A room is held with either a credit card or a check deposit. At the time of your reservation, a deposit of 50% of your entire stay will be due. Please note minimum stay policy above. Upon receipt of your deposit we will email you a letter of confirmation and a guest information form that we will ask you to fill out and return to us.

3. What's your cancellations policy?

Since we are located off the beaten path and have no walk-in guests, cancellations affect us significantly. Your deposit, less $50 per room booked, will be refunded if we receive notification of your cancellation at least three weeks prior to your planned arrival date. After that, we regret that no refund is possible for a no-show or an early departure. Needless to say, you are welcome to send someone else in your place.

4. What kinds of meals do you serve?

Because we are over a half hour from the nearest grocery store, we ask that you notify us in advance about any special needs, birthdays, anniversaries, or dietary restrictions. Breakfast is served buffet style. Lunch is provided as either a backpack, picnic basket, or brown bag meal. Dinner at The Swag is a festive and social event. From 6:00-7:00, hors d'oeuvres are served on the dogtrot, followed by dinner at 7:00 pm. Guests may be seated privately or with other guests at the famous Swag family style tables. All guests are seated by placecards in the evening.

Each week we offer three special meal events :

  • On Sunday, treat yourself to a lavish buffet brunch
  • On Wednesday, relish our gourmet picnic lunch atop Gooseberry Knob
  • On Thursday, a bar-be-cue feast for dinner from our chef’s outdoor grill
5. What clothes should I pack?

Bring casual clothes, comfortable walking or hiking shoes, and a bathing suit for relaxing in our spa. Because The Swag's altitude is 5,000 feet, our weather is often a bit cooler than some guests expect, especially in the evenings after sunset. If you are cold natured, you may want to pack layers. Sporadic weather changes are common in the mountains, so you may also want to pack a light rain jacket. Look at our activities page to pack accordingly. Dress for dinner is smart casual. Men are not required to wear a jacket or a tie.

6. What about your smoking policy?

The hand-hewn logs that make up our buildings are over 100 years old. For this reason, we are a non-smoking property. Smoking is permitted in designated areas.

7. Can I purchase alcohol on site?

The Swag is located in a "dry" county. By law, we are not permitted to sell alcohol. If you enjoy beer, wine or spirits, please make sure to bring your own.

8. Are visitors allowed?

In order to assure privacy and a restful atmosphere for our guests, The Swag is closed to people who do not have room or meal reservations. If you would like to visit The Swag for lunch or dinner, please make a reservation in advance.

9. Can we come for lunch/dinner?

Non-overnight guests can have lunch or dinner reservations and are welcomed at The Swag. Please call for reservations well in advance we are often filled to capacity. Our meal prices for non-overnight guests (per person) are:

  • Wednesday gourmet cookout picnic, $46
  • Sunday brunch, $46
  • Dinner (all nights), $64

10. What's arrival/checkout time?

Check-in is at 3:00 p.m. and checkout is at 11:00 a.m. Rooms are not available for use before 3:00 p.m.

11. Where's the nearest airport?

The closest airports are Asheville, NC (approximately a one hour drive from The Swag), Greenville, SC (approximately a two hour drive from The Swag) and Knoxville, TN (also a two hour drive from The Swag). Car rental is available at all three airports.
